Trinity Blood Volume 4

I have no idea why I haven’t picked this up seeing as I’m such a fan of anything that has to do with vampires. I guess the hype wasn’t strong enough to encourage me to spend my pennies.
If you’ve done your research into Trinity Blood you’ll know that it was originally a light novel by author Sunao Yoshida. Yoshida passed away in 2004 shortly after it was announced it would be made into an anime. His friend Kentaro Yasui took over the franchise and completed both the anime and manga in his absence.
Produced by Studio Gonzo, Trinity Blood is a 24 episode anime and tells the story of an Earth whose population has dramatically increased and, as a result, humanity have attempted to colonise Mars.
During this time, two alien nano technologies are discovered -- the Bacillus and the Crusnik. Bascillus caused humans to turn into vampires (known as Methuselah’s) while the Crusnik which was installed into 4 test tube babies, turning them into something unusual. 900 years on, the Methuselah’s and the humans (known as Terrans) are at war, having both developed into opposing political and military forces.
Trinity Blood is interesting in its choice of groups and how they’re portrayed, like the Roman Catholic Church who is protecting the remaining humans with their elite AX task force consisting of highly trains nuns and priests. And then there are the “bad guys” the Rosenkreuz Orden who have a collection of German’s who just so happen to be quite twisted.
Gonzo have come up trumps again with animation that isn’t shoddy and character design that fits mood of the series. I do however have problems with the dub as some of the voices don’t seem to suit the character.
My main gripe with this DVD is a consequence of MVM’s distinct lack of extras on all of their discs. I’d be expecting a lot more bang for my buck than the textless opening, closing titles and a few trailers. Ideally I would have also had menu screens as well as it took me at least 20 minutes to figure out what I needed to select.
But could be a result of my own ineptitude!
