“Otaku” Murderer Executed on Tuesday
Tsutomu Miyazaki, a child serial killer also known as the “Otaku Murderer” was executed on Tuesday, after being convicted of four counts of murder in 1988 and 89. His trial began in 1990, and was sentenced to death in 1997.
At the time of his arrest, police found 5,763 videotapes containing violent and pornographic imagery in live action and anime form. His label as the “Otaku Murderer” led to a large moral panic and negative connotations over Otaku and anime at the time of his crimes.
